Emotional Disturbance (ED) support class

Purpose of the support program

The Support Program offers educational programs for students from Years K to  6 who display emotional disturbance. 

Enrolment in the Support Program is by Department of Education & Communities Placement Panel Selection and Lismore Heights Public School's enrolment policy. Applications for enrolment are identified by the Learning & Support Team at the child's home school.

The purpose of the Support Program at Lismore Heights Public School is to work alongside the student's home school to provide a high quality learning environment aimed at developing resilience, confidence and independence in students to enable them to successfully transition back to full-time mainstream education.

The Program caters for up to 7 students and is staffed by a qualified teacher and a School Learning Support Officer.

Vision

Our Vision is to offer a high quality educational program in a caring and safe  environment. Using a range of quality student-centered teaching and learning programs, we provide students with the opportunity to learn skills and strategies to enable them to reach their full potential socially, emotionally, academically and physically.

Duration

Students attend the Support Program for up to four school terms. During this time students continue to attend their home school, initially for one day a week and then gradually increasing to full-time over the enrolment period. A review will be held once a term to discuss progress and integration. The program has an emphasis on working closely with home schools to facilitate students' attendance and maximize student progress.

Student welfare

Our student welfare program has a major focus on celebrating the success of all students with a focus on Positive Behaviour for Learning practices.  Strong parental/carer support for the Support Class' student welfare program is integral to the success of the Support Program.

Termly reviews

Termly reviews will be conducted between the home school and the Support Class to discuss progress in both settings, with a view to securing a positive transition back to the home school. Both schools work together in transitioning the student back into mainstream education successfully within 12 months.

Intellectual Mild (IM) Support Class

Purpose of the support program

The Support Program offers educational programs for students from Years 3 to 6 who display Intellectual Moderate learning difficulties.

Enrolment in the Support Program is by Department of Education & Communities Placement Panel Selection and Lismore Heights Public School's enrolment policy. Applications for enrolment are identified by the Learning & Support Team at the child's home school.

The purpose of the Support Program at Lismore Heights Public School is to provide a high quality learning environment aimed at developing resilience, confidence and independence in students.

The Program caters for up to 16 students and is staffed by a qualified teacher and a School Learning Support Officers.

Duration

Many students who attend the IM Support Class remain in the class until they move to high school. During this time, students are enrolled at Lismore Heights Public School and attend the Support Class 5 days a week. Regular review meetings with familes and other agencies enable us to monitor students' progress and address any specific needs. The program has an emphasis on working closely with families to facilitate students' attendance and maximize student progress.

Our student welfare program has a major focus on celebrating the success of all students with a focus on Positive Behaviour for Learning practices. Strong parental/carer support for the IM Support Class' student welfare program is integral to the success of the Support Program.
